The Night Vision Spot: ACTinBlack TNV/DTNVS 09/05/21

 The DTNVS

The DTNVS are night vision goggles that are manufactured from a housing unit manufactured by ACTinBlack, a European night vision company based in Luxembourg, that are then imported by Night Vision Inc and fitted with L3Harris tubes. Based off the earlier DTNVG goggles, these are a product improved version that are lighter while also increasing the durability.

Only weighing in at 17.9 ounces, or just barely over 1.1 pounds, they are one of the lightest binocular goggles on the market. They also retain the independent articulation of each tube like the PVS-31 and 1531 models from L3Harris have. Despite their light weight, they also exceed the standards set by USSOCOM for goggle strength and water submersion. They also use standard PVS-14 Monocular style optical assemblies, meaning accessories that work for the 14 model will likely work with these goggles, meaning cost efficiency is further improved.

Of note is the tube type, which is an MX-10160 with ABC, automated brightness control, which means the gain is automatically adjusting with no manual control. This was done after extensive talks and discussions with end users around the world as it was deemed that the manual control could cause unnecessary complexity and could easily be a problem if the user messed with the adjustment on a mission and they no longer had it set in a usable state for the mission. They are also powered by one CR123 battery, which is about 25 hours of on time, so they don't even require much in the way of power, adding to their lightweight appeal. They also featuring an onboard IR LED with an on/off indicator so the user knows when light is on inside the tube, and even has a low battery indicator light.

The price varies, but there are four available models, the standard housing with the green phosphor filmed tubes for $9,000, standard housing with white phosphor tubes for $9,950, the housing with IDP stops and green tubes for $9,282, and the IDP housing with white tubes for $10,232. Still not cheap, but for what you get in the deal, they are certainly a worthwhile investment for anyone getting into this type of equipment or and military or law enforcement units that are looking for a good all around value.
