The Night Vision Spot: Optics 1 ECOTI 09/26/21
The Optics 1 ECOTI
The ECOTI is a thermal hybrid device that allows for state of the art visual augmentation. What it does is simple, it is a very clear night vision thermal optic that outlines targets, similar to a video game. The capabilities are advanced enough to allow for this to occur. A human silhouette will be outlined around a figure that follows the edges of the body so that a real outline is always present. This lets the user track movement and outline potential threats in very clear resolution. It is not a stand alone device, but rather a very capable, albeit very expensive, clip on device that is mounted in front of a pair of night vision goggles. This allows for the hybrid mechanism to work as it accurately relays information onto the goggle and into the users eyes. The technology involved in this equipment is very high end and secretive, so information relating to how it actually works is limited, even though they can be commercially purchased. It is light weight at only 3.81 ounces and mounts onto standard PVS-14 style objective lenses such as the RNVG, PVS-14, and DTNS, as well as L3Harris BNVD and GPNVG goggles.Available through TNVC, the ECOTI is expectedly not inexpensive. Coming in at $8,399.00 for the PVS-14 bracket model, $8,399.00 for the BNVD and GPNVG bracket model, and $8,499.00 for the PVS-15/18 bracket model. Brackets themselves can be purchased individually to mount to other devices so it can be swapped over between different goggles the user may have or end up using. The process for purchase on the civilian market is somewhat intensive and is not as simple as buying it online. To purchase, you need to Sign and return ITAR Compliance Form, Provide Proof of U.S. Citizenship / government photo ID, Customer Name, Billing, and Shipping Address must all match, and customers using business or company accounts will be required to furnish proof of authorization to use alternate form of payment/billing. Any orders that do not meet the above requirements will be cancelled. Of note is that ITAR violations, especially those that involve night vision or thermal are very seriously enforced. In fact, you have to be a US citizen to even be able to look through a pair of Gen 3 or higher tubes, even if you are a perfectly well respected citizen with no records at all.
